On 12th May 2012, thousands of Habitat YouthBUILD volunteers will embark on local construction projects across the Asia-Pacific region to help hundreds of families to break the poverty cycle and say “NO” to inadequate housing.
Habitat Thailand YouthBUILD will take place at the National Housing Min Buri complex, at Khlong Sam Wa, Bangkok on 12th May 2012. This complex, more than 20km north of Bangkok, has been developed into a large residential community and agriculture area, which so far has allowed over 1,500 families to leave Bangkok slums.
Since I am very much a part of the community in Thailand, I felt that the least I could do was to support this effort wholeheartedly, by doing whatever I can – pray, participate in builds locally here in Thailand, volunteer to help out in whatever capacity that is required and fundraise towards this effort. So far, I have joined Habitat Thailand for builds on 8 days across 4 locations – Bangplad, Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya and Nonthaburi. I am touched by the hundreds of people who come each weekend to volunteer with us - repairing schools and building homes. Each one just sincerely wanting to do their bit for their community and country. My next build is on Wednesday, 7th March.
With your support, I plan to raise THB 50,000 (~RM 5,000 or ~USD 1,660) towards Habitat YouthBUILD 2012. Any support rendered would be much appreciated and would make a difference to the lives of people here. Thanks, everyone.
