The Teenager Today BUILDS for India
For
the past two years THE TEENAGER TODAY has worked closely with
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INDIA through its annual youth event TEEN OF
THE YEAR, to build houses together in partnership with families in
need.
During the national finals (in 2010 & 2011), a day-long TEEN BUILD was held during which the finalists, past participants and organisers helped a family construct a home near Mumbai.
Our teen volunteers had the opportunity to take part "hands on" in the construction or renovation of houses. Yes, they learned to build, paint and work together, but above all, they understood the plight of a community — a life-transforming experience.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE LIVES... INCLUDING YOUR OWN
The government of India estimates that the housing deficit in India is nearly 40 million — that means, nearly 200 million Indians have no place to call home. Moreover, more than 60 per cent of India’s estimated 180 million dwellings are temporary or in a dilapidated condition.
YouthBUILD is your chance to help people build their lives. Your contribution, in terms of money or your time, may seem small, but to a family in need, it would mean the world. A home equals shelter, education, better health, dignity and hope for the future.
WHY SHOULD YOU GET INVOLVED?
You, the youth, are important for India!
Teens = energy, ambition, independence, fresh ideas and enthusiasm — the hope and future of India.
Socially conscious teens, the decision-makers of tomorrow, will ensure a better society which is considerate and sensitive to all human beings.
What better way for teens everywhere to make their voices heard and their actions felt than through the Habitat for Humanity's YouthBUILD.
Join THE TEENAGER TODAY & HABITAT FOR HUMANITY to make poverty housing a thing of the past.
Be an agent of social change!
