I just completed two full days of volunteering with Habitat Thailand in Pathum Thani. 200 people participated in restoring two schools and building 3 houses. We are making a difference one house at a time!

My team and I helped paint one of the larger buildings at the school- it looked 10x better when we were finished.
-
A few of the volunteers got creative with their painting of the toilets.
-
Other volunteers were eager to make new friends. I had the privilege of meeting one of the teachers at the school.
-
The area surrounding the house we worked on. There was still water in many areas of the community, and the housing situation was very poor.
-
We spent the morning putting down the floor. The house is designed to sit on stilts to avoid flood damage.
-
This is the first school we helped rehabilitate. You could see the water line on the building at about 2-3 meters high. Supposedly the water stayed for 2 months, preventing children from attending school.
-
The children contributed to the build!
-
A group of school girls and I got our hands dirty in landscaping!
-
Volunteer bonding.
-
Stretching and 'exercise' prior to building/ painting/ etc.
-
Landscaping duty :)

Spreading gravel with a ho is tough work

Volunteers!
I am currently volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity Asia Pacific office in Bangkok, and I'm participating in several builds with Habitat Thailand throughout the month of February. I decided to dedicate my time to this organization because of the positive and vital impact it has on communities that have been devastated by natural disasters. Without the support and expertise of Habitat, thousands would be left without adequate shelter and may be forced to leave their communities if they are not repaired and restored. In Thailand, over 500 people's lives were claimed by the 2011 floods, and the damage has led to home destruction, school closings and factory closures that led to unemployment.
My goal is to add value to this organization by working full-time in the Asia Pacific office for a month, participating in over 20 hours of volunteer builds in and around Bangkok on the weekends, and raising $1,000 (about 30,000 Bhat). Will you help me magnify my contribution by donating to this campaign for hope? Anything helps, even $5! And please spread the word through facebook, twitter and other social media sites. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
